This is a tribute to all the Mothers who like myself, have a child with a mental illness.
We all have our own stories of endless Emergency Rooms, psychiatric hospitals, numerous doctors, meds. We all have our battle scars from our struggles with Insurance companies, the health care system, schools and society’s prejudice and disdain.
We all carry the unimaginable sorrow of seeing our daughters and sons in pain, and hurting themselves over and over and over again, just to get hurt some more by a cruel, ignorant and indifferent society.
And in the dark nights when our hearts plead for help; when we beg for a miracle; when we raise our fists to the skies and say: “I will trade places with my child”…
Know that You are not alone.
We are many, we who love and care for a child with a mental illness. We are many pleading voices, and loving arms. We are many “armies of one” scattered all over and fighting for a dignified life for our children.
My name is Debora and I have a 15 year old beautiful daughter, who suffers from Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder.
May on this Mother’s Day we all hear the soft loving echoes of each others hearts and wishes for our children, and to know in that moment, we are not alone.
Happy Mother’s Day
