NAMI is an organization that has meant a great deal to me personally. I began attending meetings at NAMI Rowan in 2009 at the recommendation of a friend. At that time Davie County did not have a NAMI Affiliate. It was also at that time that another Davie resident, Julie Whittaker, and I became acquainted.
Julie had been and still remains a dedicated mental health advocate. She shares knowledge and ideas from the perspective of a family member. In 2011 Julie and I approached NAMI Forsyth about expanding their affiliate to include Davie County.
Eventually the NAMI Forsyth Board decided to include both Davie and Stokes counties which resulted in the formation of a new affiliate, NAMI Northwest Piedmont.
