Mental illness runs in my family. I have watched it tear apart lives and relationships my whole life. I knew I had problems at an early age. People told me I was just a bad kid or acting out because of earlier abuse. My life changed in my 20’s when a doctor told me these antidepressants will not work, you are bi polar. I was thrilled to finally know and that led to me trying to self diagnose. After almost losing my husband and children because of my refusal to get help and stick with it I got serious.
I have been on lithium for two years and have had a wonderful therapist and doctor. I still have trouble sometimes but I’m better equipped to handle them properly. I have enrolled in school and have become the mother and wife I want to be. I want people to know no matter how many mistakes you make you can overcome.
