"You are not alone" is the single hardest thing to hear and believe from the midst of flashbacks of PTSD and dissociative disorder. After eleven years of therapy and mindfulness practice, I finally believe it.
I had no cohesive narrative of my life, only sensory terror when I looked for my own story. My alters frightened me before I grew close to them and understood how hugely grateful I am for their existence. I wrote the story of my journey from fragmentation to wholeness that I’m now shopping for an agent. Whatever happens, I found the support of others, there were people to listen and be present with me in the my most invisible, helpless times, who also understood the vitality of my alters. This is treatable, and wholeness is possible.
