It’s an Olympic Distance race consisting of a 1500m swim, a 40k bike, and a 10k run.
Terri and Shawn Grauel initiated a team called “Be Aware" and their wheels have been in motion training for the team’s first race.
Meanwhile in Washington President Obama officiated the month of June as National Mental Health Awareness Month.
Team Be Aware’s mission is in perfect alignment. They intend to raise awareness about and encourage people to donate to organizations like the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Fountain House, NYC, Clubhouse International, Services for the Underserved and www.greendoor.org that aid in the recovery of men and women living with mental illness by providing opportunities for people to live, work, and learn, while contributing their talents through a community of mutual support.
This is a cause close to Terri and Shawn’s hearts…over half of their family members are living with mental illness. Up until his death 4 years ago, Terri’s Dad George Grauel was helped by an organization in Washington DC called Green Door. For the last 12 years of his life George lived in one of Green Doors group homes with no hospitalizations. These important community programs are in danger of closing because of lack of funding. Thanks for giving this very important timely cause the consideration it deserves!
