I am 53 years old and a bipolar survivor, which I had a life changing three month psychotic episode when I was 21. The psychotic episode was triggered by a one week meditation retreat (no talking retreat).
Twenty years later and thirty-six jobs later; a kind unemployment counselor asked me about my job history, who referred me to Vocational Rehabilitation, which enabled me to secure employment was a good employer; I am happy to report that I have been gainfully employed with one employer for 14 years.
I am grateful to NAMI and my Kaiser doctors and counselors and am able to recognize today that this disease did not just happen to me, it happen to my family as well. I am glad to see support and programs available to the families, which were not available in 1981. I am fortunate to have survived the journey. Blessing, Pam in Colorado
