Since about 4th grade I struggled with weight issues and fitting in. Occasionally I purged at just 8 years old in order to be skinny. I was always athletic and involved in sports which contributed to tremendous anxiety.
Starting in 6th grade I experienced this anxiety in school and other places as well. I would avoid people at all costs and be terrified of going to school in fear of having to speak in class.
After years of many issues I was diagnosed with severe social anxiety and depression. In 7th grade I also struggled with self harm issues. Now in high school I developed an eating disorder as well. My parents are attempting to help but get frustrated and don’t believe in mental health. They believe these issues are a choice and you can change.
It will always be a daily battle I have learned. I hope one day to accept and recover. My dream would be for the mental health stigma to break. I hope one day we can openly talk about mental health without fear.
