My name is Elizabeth.
I am a college student coping with depression and anxiety. My journey has not been easy. I believe I developed depression in 6th grade and have been anxious for as long as I can remember. My mental illness has lead to a number of hospitalizations and transferring colleges so that I can me closer to home in case things get out of control again.
Despite me troubles, I am in the honors program at my college. I am expecting to graduate in a little over a year with a degree in psychology and continue on to a PhD. program. Within the next year I will be conducting research to see if certain biblical scripture, if taken out of context, can cause people anxiety.
NAMI connections has been a great support to me in addition to my family, friends, therapist, and psychiatrist. NAMI helps me remember that I am not alone and the importance of learning how to take care of myself so that I will continue to be able to successfully cope with my illness.
