See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Dear NAMI,

My formal diagnosis is Schizoaffective disorder but I have never had a classic hallucination. I never see things that aren’t there or hear voices. What I have is a constant flow of loud thoughts that I don’t hear or see, but just think going through my head all of the time. Sometimes they are obsessions like in OCD and sometimes they are delusions, sometimes they make me very upset emotionally and sometimes I get manic.

I feel like we are at the very beginning of treating mental illness. At first when I was diagnosed I had never heard of anyone with my disorder having a problem with loud thoughts, so I continued to pay attention to them. Now I realize that I can help quiet them with Zen meditation and yoga and a healthy life style. Medication is also part of my treatment.

What I have learned from this experience is that the different diagnoses are not exact definitions. Not everyone’s symptoms are the same. I think it is important to keep an open mind.
