My husband has bipolar disorder, mixed, severe. And we have been married now for three years. I took the NAMI Family-to-Family class, to have a better understanding of what my husband’s illness is. And that class has helped tremendously with having a better understanding of what he is going through . Anyone that has a family member or a spouse that has either bipolar or schizophrenia, really should take the class. It’s for 12 weeks. One night a week for about two hours. You get to meet other people that are going to the same experiences as yourself, you don’t feel so alone caring for your loved one. You learn so much information in the 12 weeks. Some examples are, how the brain works, how they are really feeling, about medicines, how to deal with a crisis mode, how to have empathy and sympathy, how to communicate, how to take care yourself as well and you form new friendships with people because they’re going through the same stuff experiences as you yourself are. I went to a class on how to take care yourself as well and you form new friendships with people because they’re going through the same stuff experiences as you yourself are. I took the first class during our first year of marriage. I felt like I learned a lot. But then I decided, maybe I needed to learn a little bit more. So I took the class again. It was the same class and layout. But with a whole new set of people, and instructors. So the second time around I feel like I got more information that I may have missed the first time around. Each week you go you get information to put in the binder to take home with you. I honestly can say I do need to start reading my book more often, to help myself remember what I learned. The classes were free yet so priceless 😀 Thank you so much NAMI for all you have done 👍👍
