Hi,

I would like to share my mental health history to enable others to seek help and not give up hope. My start of mental health issues started when I was about 17 years old. I had OCD like symptoms and was given medication. I also had anxiety which was treated the same way. Some years later I was told I had attention deficit disorder . By now I was frustrated with all the diagnoses and was frustrated. Some years later while switching meds I spent 16 weeks in 2 mental hospitals.

I became a Christian soon after all this and prayed for relief of symptoms. I haven’t felt better but I try to help others who are struggling with similar conditions. I am recently divorced and have 2 great sons ages 13 and 17.
I am available to help those who need help. I am not a health care professional but I am intuitive and maybe can direct you.

Hello my name is Bianca, I am 21 years old. I have had mental health  issues since I was 13 years old. I remember when I was 13 I started getting moody, agitation, aggressive, outbursts, anxiety. So when I was in middle school I was bullied by older girls. I was hospitalized because I was cutting myself and been aggressive to my parents. Then I started struggling all time. The DCF, CHINS, DMH decided to send me to residential mental health program until 2 years ago. I beat my struggle and didn’t relapse and I am so proud of myself. 4 years no hospitalization. But I do still struggle and do get help, but not like before. I know how to speak up. Please speak up and prevent suicide.

I suffer from chronic depression. I have been evaluated and reevaluated at least 6 times in over 30 years. Each psychiatrist’s diagnosis was not the same. 3 psychiatrist said I was bipolar manic depressive, and 3 said I have chronic depression. I know I am not manic! I do not completely fit that profile. Where can I get a proper  diagnosis?  And I have been on just about every medication there is. I feel that the dr.’s have become complacent.  All they have done is make my life more unbearable than it already is. They have left me with no choices. So I am advocating for my self. This I find very, very, sad and pathetic. All they ever did was give me many, many, many psychotic drugs. And to no avail none have really never worked for me. To many side effects. I am almost off all those useless medications. I am now trying medicinal Marijuana. So far this has worked just as well as any psychotic medicines or even better. The mental health epidemic  is out of control !!! These people who suffer from a mental illness need to be treated properly,  and myself also. I have been hospitalized, and it was not pretty! This did not help me at all. You can not put people with different illnesses all together in a small area and let total chaos take over and continue all day. If you are not crazy when you go in you will b by the time you get out. And then the labels start. All on my medical records. The dr.’s never even explain to me why I was labeled with what ever they chose to label me. This will follow me every where I go. Just these kind of actions only cause me more anxiety, pain , sadness and then the depression sets in. No thanks to the medical field. God, we are all human beings and should be treated as so.

I am in need financial help and or guidance. I continue to run in to roadblocks where I am not eligible for any known assistance programs. (Therapy, medication, housing, food)

1. Disability : Mental Health (depression and anxiety along with adhd). 10+ year diagnoses
2. Relocated to Dallas for Finance career. Feb 2020. 13 month lease signed ($1,800/month)
3. Notice of Employer received PPP funds in April 2020.
4. I was terminated due to Coronavirus impact, yet I am receiving severance on the “payroll” schedule until End of July 2020.

As you can imagine this has been an absolute nightmare and paralyzing me emotionally, needed to get over to the next page in my life.

Is there someone I can work with to help me? I don’t know where to turn for financial help. And will destroy my credit and career if I cannot pay my rent obligations.

I was diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder, A.D.D, mild depression and dyslexia. My parents tried everything that was available during that time and nothing worked. Medication was the only option left and my parents weren’t sure about it at first but after they both tell me it might have been a hard decision but it was totally worth it. Medication does have its ups and downs, but it has changed my life for the better. I would never be going to college, driving, gone on over night girl scout and church camps, I never would have found my passion for dance and music. I have been able to live my life, do things I never would have done before. Does it cure it 100%, no but it helps me keep it under control. Less panic attacks, quiets the random worries that would go through my head 24/7, etc. Now days there is more knowledge about mental illness and providing different ways to cop with it and medication can be a last resort but I have to say that without it, I wouldn’t be the real me. Before I was stuck in my head but now I am able to come out of my shell. 

As many do, I fought the idea of mental illness and medication. At 50, I finally accepted my diagnoses and began the journey towards stability. Learning all I could about my multiple diagnosises and what I could do to help myself I faithfully began treatment, never missing an appointment nor a dose of prescribed medication.

The poem that you’re about to read is a poem I wrote over three years ago.  I can tell you now that these are feelings I no longer posses. With the help of proper medication, and therapy, I don’t feel these things anymore, but just because I don’t feel them all time doesnt mean I don’t feel them because I do. I have to live with my OCD and anxiety everyday. It’s just a matter of how I let it control my day. which I try my hardest to not let it control me.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and I am so stoked for the opportunity that this gives me to spread knowledge about one of the causes closest to my heart. To kick off the month, I’d like to share my personal story with you as I encourage others to share their stories. For the past couple months, I have been trying to figure out how to describe my experiences with mental illness. This is challenging as I feel that no words will adequately capture the nuances that made my experiences so profoundly meaningful but I will do my best.

My name is Michelle Schlosser Russell and I am a Mental Health disorder person suffering from Bi-polar Disorder as well as ADD. I have a 6 year old son who is also suffering with ADHD and different types of learning and behavior disorders. Everyday it is a different challenge for us to survive in this mean cruel world but of course we definitely try to make the best of it. It is routine for us to wake up every morning and take our medications as well as every night before we go to sleep. We try to interact with others as normal people do but it is very hard as people with our disorders have difficulty getting along with others and understanding others.

My son especially has a hard time just listening and learning with and to others. So you can see how living day to day is challenging to us. I have a hard time holding down a job and saving money and it causes a lot of problems in my life. We are constantly on the verge of losing our home and I struggle daily to make sure my son and I live as normal people do and so therefore I make sure to jot down when our rent is due and I am always late which costs me an extra 100 each month that I really dont have. I jot down when our light bill is due and this is also another bill which has given me trouble because I have forgotten to pay it before and my lights have been turned off which has lead me into trouble with trying to keep my son.
