Selective Mutism

Hi all, my name is Jeanine. I’m on long term disability for multiple Mental Illnesses. This is only about 1 of them:Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). For 23 years SAD has been a part of my life, BUT didn’t BECOME the main focus of my life until 6/1/2018.
I’m 45 yrs. old. I’ve multiple Mental Illnesses. I’ve never experienced discrimination due to them until 6/1/18. I can’t go into specifics, due to a pending investigation into the situation. Unfortunately, the “Situation” is ongoing.

My symptoms are aggravated by increased stress, anxiety, & frustration. The prolonged exposure of over 2 months to all of these aggravating factors has resulted in Selective Mutism (SM) since approx. 7/10/2018. I can’t speak the majority of the time. SM is a symptom only.I’m seeking therapy to better cope with the “Situation”, because it is what triggered my Anxiety symptoms.   My SM is a barrier in receiving therapy for the “Situation” that it is a direct result of. I feel like therapists are focused on my SM, instead of the cause of my aggravated anxiety symptoms (the Situation).

How do I get therapy when I have Federal health insurance from Social Security, I don’t know sign language, and I can’t vocalize? I also only have a limited income that is a little over the limit for Medicaid, but to small to pay for virtual or local therapy w/o my insurance.

So if anyone has any suggestions, please let know.
