A fighter is supposed to protect himself at all times.

This is life.
My life’s not a Sport viewed by millions in order to be entertained and inspired.
Being a good sport.

Yet, even with the diagnosis and treatment of a nervous breakdown, severe depression, C.P.T.S.D., anxiety disorder and panic disorder, I never felt right. No one figured out why until everything came to ahead after my mom died and my second nervous breakdown. I ended up moving out of state, away from all the memories of my past, away from my family, my children and my closest friends. I needed a new start and I was blessed to have a close friend take me in until I can get well. We both had no idea of how bad I really was, until I was able to meet my new therapist and psychiatrist.
I was diagnosed with depression at 24 years old..I knew something with majorly wrong with the way I felt I knew it wasn’t a normal down mood.. Then around 28 years old is when I got the panic and anxiety disorder which for like a month I could not sleep, eat I was so sick but I didn’t know what was going on.. I have been on medication since I have been 24 years old.. One medication I am on is for anxiety and panic and I dislike the stigma that I abuse those just because they are controlled substance.. My disorder is so bad and that is scary when the Doctors do that when they threaten to take you off of stuff that is what I hate the most .I got an addiction and I am recovering but it is so hard because it made me feel better to numb everything
Hi! I have been diagnosed with Type II Bipolar Disorder, Clinical Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder and PTSD. I have been in treatment since 1994. Sounds like a mess doesn’t it? I’ll admit for many years there were times I thought I was crazy. There were times I thought I had two personalities, which I found out I don’t. Some doctors have tried to diagnose me with Borderline Personality Disorder as well. After reading about it, I believe they could be right about that too. Many of it’s symptom also fit me.
The reason I am writing this is to say that there is hope! I wasn’t diagnosed with Bipolar until I was nearly 45. I am now 61. I knew since my teen years that there was something wrong with me, but I didn’t know what. I didn’t know back then that there was help. I didn’t know in my 30’s or 40’s there was help. Mental illness wasn’t talked about then like it is now. I was ashamed at first, but you know what? I talk about it freely now. Mental Illness is no different than having heart disease, or diabetes, or kidney disease. Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Your brain is just as much an organ as your heart, the organ that regulates your insulin, and your kidney.
I have accepted the fact that I have to take my “psych” meds, as I call them, for the rest of my life. Right along with my blood pressure medicine and potassium for my heart. It doesn’t make me weak. It makes me a survivor!
My father was a drug addict, paranoid schizophrenic, dealer and hoarder.
Growing up was traumatic to say the least, I ended up moving out at age 15.
Currently I am 28, a father to be, high school teacher and martial arts instructor.
My whole life I have been dealing with depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns.
I found that the best therapy came from writing my story, first in the form of poetry then in a book. Even if you only write for your self, please do it. It will help!
I have struggled myself with major depression and anxiety my whole life and continue to maintain my illness daily. I am 42 and I am a professional administrative assistant and office manger. I left my job after three years because my employer did not allow me to seek medical help when necessary. I had a nervous breakdown and my doctor insisted me to seek treatment but my employer did not understand why I needed time off. It was humiliating and caused me to go into a deeper downward spiral.
My name is Jampa T Ritzekura, I am 36 years old and currently reside in Minnesota. About 10 years ago I was going through lots of anxiety, depression, manic, panic attacks, racing mind. I couldn’t take it anymore, lost hope and one day I almost ended up taking my own life. Having an image in my mind of hanging myself. And then I knew that I had to seek for some help. So I spoke to a close friend of mine, Sherab. And he recommended me to watch mindfulness meditation on YouTube by Mingyur Rinpoche. I watched, learned and practiced mindfulness meditation everyday consistently because I didn’t want to end my own life. To the point where I was able to control my own mind. And it has been 10 years now and I am cured from my mental illness and no more panic attacks, anxiety, depression, manic, racing minds and Suicidal thoughts. I want to let everyone know that mindfulness meditation practice everyday can cure your mental illness. Suicide is not the last option, don’t loose hope and don’t give up. Reach out to your friends and family, share your struggles. If I can overcome my mental illness and Suicidal thoughts, so can you.

Everyone has been so patient with me thru my struggles. I have finally had a combination of things that have immensley helped: talk treatment and the right meds. I was on a medication for years after my 3rd baby. Made me feel I could cope but I was never really me. Not as forceful or exuberant. I titrated off- that was very very hard with the side effects. Suddenly I could see what fog it had put on my life. And I wasn’t strong enough to deal with the mess my life felt like. I found myself struggling with both my parents recently dead, personal life ok but my husband deserved more, and really needing help! For some reason it dawned on me to get therapy 2 ways- find someone I liked to talk to weekly and try to get on a new med. Took me 2 tries to find a good prescribing doc, but wow what a diff in only a week or two! This new medication for me is a breakthrough. .. doc said I was bipolar which us a new way to go about pills! I’ve only had a few manic episodes in my life but it qualified me the bipolar title. I tested the waters and found I can, very easily thank goodness, have orgasms with the medication. The old one was very difficult. I was terrified it would be great but have those kind of side effects! Been having the talk therapy one on one with a lovely young woman and wow. I really didn’t know or realize what a diff that would make, to have someone who is non judgmental and is there to help you just listen. I feel light after each visit. So at this point after many many years I really feel like I’m on the road to recovery. I’m hoping I can inspire others to seek treatment times two, and also to give hope to those who feel you have a long ways to go even though you’ve been in treatment for 10 years. You can still do it! And maybe what you need is the very next med the fda allows to be rolled out, who knows? My medication is supposedly very new- and expensive. My 50 copay is only 15 for a year because I went to their website and filled out something for their savings card! Another thing to be happy about. But I would have scraped together 50 a month to be feeling this good… It’s like me at my best from 25 years ago.
I first began to experience symptoms of bipolar disorder in my early teens. i was put on Lithium while in a hospital and right away the almost catatonic depression I was in began to ease. From there on in, it seemed medication would be the answer to everything that was wrong with me. For years i was on every depression medication available, tricyclics, MAO inhibitors–when one stopped working, I was simply put on something else. Then things got better and I needed no medication through my twenties. i still struggled with lows, but there were no suicide attempts, I was able to live and love, to work and, for the most part, even enjoy life. Then, at the age of 29 I had a manic episode and my medication nightmare began.
I moved in with my abusive step mother in 2006 and lived with here till 2014 when my dad died of cancer (i was 11). I now live with my bipolar mom and little brother. I suffer from PTSD, OCD, depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, and panic attacks. I used to be suicidal, but I could not leave my brother all alone with my mother, so I’m coping.
Hello, I have always thought that sharing my story with the mental health community is important to bring hope to others that are just like me.
I’m a 37 year old divorced mother of two boys. I have been in therapy of some kind or another since I was 7 years old. Mental illness runs in my family as well as substance abuse addiction. I believe I was born with my many disorders that progressed and worsened as I got older, abused illegal drugs, prescribed medication and had my children. In my early childhood I showed all the many signs of OCD. I also grew up in an extremely chaotic family where my mother suffered terribly with her own mental illness that was never acknowledged or treated and an emotionally absent father. My two older siblings coped with this by using and abusing drugs and my older sister was put into rehab when I was seven. My older brother simply moved away and is still an addict today covering up his own mental health issues. My younger sister was extremely emotionally disturbed and would act out violently towards my parents but especially towards me. She would later become a drug addict for many years and thankfully entered recovery 4 ½ years ago.
